Fins , Feathers and Honey Bees [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 16 January 1896

Fins , Feathers and Honey Bees THE WOODEN HEN We have heard of wooden horses and wooden ducks , but a wooden henis something new under the sun—and its purposes are different from those of either of the other wooden animals mentioned . It is not a toy , though it will please a boy . It is a hen , at least it will hatch chickens from hens eggs . It is 10 x 15 x 8 inches and will take care of twenty-eight eggs . It is an incubator and costs only five dollars . This wooden hen is made by Geo . H . Stahl , Quincy , Illinois . If you want to find out more about it before you buy one write to Mr . Stahl for catalogue H which gives a full description . As February and March are good months in which to start the incubator you should get one now so as to be ready to set the Hen at work as the feathered biddies give you some eggs . If you do not care to own one yourself let the boy or girl try a hand at it and watch the outcome . TO SET BROKEN LEGS The Poultry Journal gives the following direc...

Cleveland NOT POPULAR . * ~ tr \ % * J A f * % < ¦ _ < jrresiuienrc nas come out wiith hi ® new bond issue but , for some cause , modified the original plan . In the first place no absolute deal is made with the Wall Street syndicate . There is an attempt to offer a popular loan . The old law did not permit any denomination less than $ 50 and this offer permits the loan to be taken in sums of $ 50 or multiples thereof . There is another feature which militates against a popular loan . It should not require payment in gold . Many persons with a comparative small amount to divest , including trust money cf all kinds and that belonging to unsettled estates might seek such an investment ; but why require gold ? Why not take any legal tender ? Even if nothing but gold will answer the ultimate purpose of the president ,- *© maintain the treasury reserve , any legal tender could be received from the people and afterwards converted into gold by the Secretary of the Tre...

In answer / to the cablegram , asking that tiie prisoners be treated leniently President lueger replied that he had given no orders to shoot freebooters who had been taken prisoners , but tha * be punished according to law . Emperor William sent a congra ^ atory telegram on the success of President Krueger in repelling tiie invasion ^ In reply the president said : With God ^ s help we hope to / do everything possible to hold our dearly bought independence and the stability of our beloved rep...
