"Mr. Zadock Deddrick, a Mowark machinist,, has invented a man one that, moved by steam, will perform somo of the most important functions of humanity that will, standing up right, waik or ruo, as ho is bid, in any direction and at almost any rate of speed, drawing after him a load whose weight would tax the strength of three stout draught horses. Tu3 history of this curjois invention is as follows Six yeais ago Mr. Deddrick, the inven tor, who is at present but twenty-two years of ags, conceived tho novel id a of constructing a man that should re ceive its vital tv from a perpetual motion machine. The idea was based on the well-known mechanical principle that if a heavy weight bo placed at the top of an upright slightly inclined from'a vertical, gravitation will tend to pro duce a horizontal as well as vertical motion. Tho Adjutant General is authorized to drop from the returns of arms and ordi nances such arms and stores as were issued to militia and citizens during the Sioux war of 18(52, and also for frontier defence in 1868 and 1804, and are still outstanding and ho is au thorized to relievo all persons who gave re ceipts for tho samo, from further responsibili ty for them. Provided that it shall be tho duty of tho Governor to cause the return to State arsenal of all State arms now stored at any place in this State and cause the storage charges on the same to bo paid by the State. SEC. 6. Tho Adjutant General shall pre paro all necessary blanks, rules and instruc tions which may be necessary to carry into effect the provisions of this act. SEC. 7. Novelties In Honilclue. There is a time when crime seems to be como epidemic when at various places, and eortainly without any collusion or prcarrange ment, a serios of atrocious murdors, occurring almost simultaneously, will bo committed. Such seeming co-incidents have otton boon no ticed. Tho tiles of English papers brought by tho last steamer furnish us with the details of three cases, happening all about tho same timo, of singular and shocking crime. Tho tirst of these is tho case of Margaret Walsh, aged seventeen years, teacher at a Roman Catholic school in London. It appears that Ellen Brown, four years of age-, a pupil, had for some weeks been very unwilling to attend school, and had, when compelled to do so, cried more or less. The teacher, after trying various means to terrify her, carried her into the wash room of tho convent, whore there was a large copper boiler partially tilled with boiling water, she placed the child sitting upon the edge of the boiler, and in the effo...
