THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. FEBRUARY O. 1909. Wayside hems. Because of this community lying outside of Randall county and of its distance from Canyon City it might be well to locate the place for the benefit of the readers of the News. The neigh borhood comprises the southwest corner of Armstrong county be ing cutoff from the main portion by the Palo Duro canyon which is here nine miles wide. It is touched on the south by Briscoe and Swisher counties and on the west by Kandall, being twenty eight miles from Canyon City, at which place the people do the greater part of their trading. The new church here is again receiving attention and the paint ing and outside work is about completed. It is an ornament to the community and is certainly needed, the old school house be ing unsightly, uncomfortable and unsuitable either for school or church services. It is hoped that our able and slowly becoming enterprising citizens will contemplate build ing a school house next. According to reports, ab...

THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. FEBRUARY 12. 1909. 4 CENTRAL WEST TEXA3 DEVELOPMENT. History's Rapidly Shifting Scenes Shows March of Progress. Riding across the lower plains in a high-power automobile has Jie charm of novelty as well as a tinge of romance. Little more than fifty years ago this country was the habitat of the-Comanche and the Kiowa. Many men are now living who engaged in san guinary combats with these Indi ' ans in Western Texas. The plains were at a day which may properly be called recent, cover ed with immense herds of buffa loes. Herds of such great num bers that it was considered fool ish to take measures to protect them by law. In less than a decade the Comanches were swept into a small reservation in the Indian Territory and the buffaloes were wiped out by hide hunters, and the white man was unmolested in his possession. With equal rapidity came an other change. The country was open and free. Immense herds of cattle replaced the buffalo and the early ranchman with his...

THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS, FEBRUARY 19. f09. NEW JUDICIAL DISTRICT. Randall County to Have Eight Weeks of Dis trict Court During the Year Instead of Four. During the session of legisla ture which is now grinding along at Austin a bill was introduced to make a new judicial district out of a portion of the 47th dis trict of which Randall county was a portion.
