.v. GERMANY CONFIDENT, AWAITS PEACE PROPOSALS: BERLIN, -Dec. 9. "If our enemies will make peace proposals compatible with Germany's-dignity and safety, then we will" be ready to discuss them," said Imperial Chancellor Dr. von Bethmann Hellweg, addressing the Reichstag today. He made clear, however, his belief that it would be folly for Germany to propose peace "as long as in the enemies' countries the guilt and ignorance of the statesmen continue to entangle with confusion all public opinion. Being' conscious of military success, Germany now declines responsibility for further continuation of the war, the chancellor added, at the same time declaring that the supplies of food and copperare sufficient to carry the war another year. - ARIZOJN TNT?T VOLUME XLVNo. 51 Germans INSURANCE ASSETS BEING USED TO BOOST ECONOMIC PRDGRES! LANGHARD ADVOCATES SQUARE DEAL FOR II HOMESEEKER In a recent issue of the Reclamation Record, Statis tician C. J. Blanchard utters a plea for the protection of the homeseekers who come to the various projects to purchase land, and in the article, Mr. Blanchard asks: "Can not means be found which will insure the home seeker a square deal? Is it not possible to organize in each community a committee to advise and direct the new comer in his investments? "Surely, the man who comes to make a growing country his home, to invest his capital and industry, and raise his family there, is a greater asset to the commu nity than the man who is selling out. As we see it, the water users' associations have a grave duty to perform in this connection." - Confronted by the very problem pointed out by Mr. Blancard the Elephant Butte Water Users' Association came to a realization of rne "grave .duty" he mentions, states H. B. Link, secretary of Agriculture, at Las Cru- ces, New Mexico. The employment ...

M ID HARRIS WILL AID ALLbGED BURGLARS (By B. I Fly) A near-sensation was sprung in Judge Baxter's court this morning, when the three, burglars, John and Harry Leake and Walter Snapp, were called upon to plead to the charge upon which they were bound over yes terday by Justice Jones. It had been generally understood that the burglars would at once enter" a plea of guilty, and thus end the matter. But such was not the case. Attorneys Harris and Ford appeared as attorneys for the three men and, upon representing to the court that they had not had time to make a proper defense, asked that the case go over in order that they might have time to file a demurrer to the com plaint. "Dp to that time, it was not even known that the two attorneys were to appear for the defendants. They had called at the jail very late last even ing and asked for a conference with the alleged burglars, it appearing that they had volunteered to serve them, as no message had been sent them from the jail. The case ...
