WEEKLY BAZOO. SEDALIA TUESDAY, JUXE4,1878. THE WOBKIMG WOMAN'S HO TEL. This concern is about to close- A. T- Stewart, when living, looked upon the hotel as a place where oue thou sand working women would be made happy and independent. Yet when it was opened the lowest price at which it accepted a boarder was S7 er week at least S2 per week above the aver age earnings of the workiug women of that city. When the necessity for clothing, car fare, washing, and other inevitable expenses is taken into con sideration, it must be readily apparent to every one that residence in the "Women's Hotel is, to the average working woman of New York, as un attainable as Judge Hilton's other ho tel in Saratoga. But it appears the Women's Hotel was not intended for shop girls, but for ladies who earn their own living, and who are still so well off that they can afford a luxu rious home. The result seems to dem onstrate either that that class is very limited ; that its members prefer less showy homes wi...

WEEKLY BAZOO. SEDALIA TUESDAY. JUNE 18, 1878. OUT OF SOAP. The Potter fraud committee is out of funds, a very common occurrence nowadavs. It is stranded high and dry on the shoa! ot not bankruptcy but iropecuniosity. It is impossible for fraud committees to become bank rupt, because they are not responsible for auv kind of liabilities. ine iui aui uuu ui iiauuium business of investigation is in trouble for lack of ready cash; other business of much more importance to the coun try is also in trouble from the same cause. Just think of it, this knowl edge seeking committee will be con fined at Washington till congress ap propriates. Scarcity of money is death to business of every kind. That con gress lets the noble basiness of investi gation suffer for lack of funds, when it has been so profuse in its gifts in other directions, is a stain on its patriotism. In its munificence, it has floated value less railroad stocks, and proposed to furnish water for waterless rivers, still investiga...

WEEKLY BAZOO. SEDAL1A TUESDAY, JULY 2, 1878. GEN. HOW&BD. A dispatch yesterday stated that "the advance troopa of Gen. Howard attacked the hostilesSunday,"and that "couriers rode two hundred miles to furnish Gen. Howard the news of the battle, and asking for re-inforcements." It is a well known as well as disgrace ful fact that during last summer's campaign Howard lagged behind his his army and Gen. Miles did the fighting. General Howard is the greatest fraud that ever disgraced the American army or nation. A COMPARISON. People who make a poor mouth about such hard times will do well to compare the prices of things now with what they were fourteen years ago, when everything was "lively," as they called it. Some one has hunted up an old wholesale price list of groceries and dry goods for 1864, and compares it with one for 1878. The wholesale price of crushed sugar then was 29cts, now lOcts; Cuba sugar was then quoted at 21c, now 8c; best New Orleans molasses then 81.90, now 40c ;...

WEEKLY BAZOO. SEDALIA TUESDAY, JULY 2, 1878. OUB SUNDAY SERMON. The Romans marked their happy days with a white stone. Happy were it for mil if, in our youth, we had thus marked our early Sabbaths, and upon that firm white Atone, Purity, reared the structure ol our manhoods, and build ed them till the froty turrets of old age reached high to heaven, Seven more beads hath old Father Time told from his string that reaches to eternity They have been reparated from those to come, and his finger trembles on the next, that will swiftly glide over the space be tween the Future and the Past. Men die and babes arc born, nations rise and fall thrones totter and dynasties pass into ob livion ; yet Time marches o'er the ruins with his unceasing, unchanging and unend ing tread. WEEKLY BAZOO. SEDALIA TUESDAY, JULY 9, 1878. Potter's Committee has adjourned for a week, in order to recover from too much Jenks. Martin J. Clardy has secured the nomination as Democratic candidate for the First District. Judge Sidney Breeze, of Carlyle, Illinois, one of the oldest and most distinguished jurists of that State last Saturday. Hon. John I. Martin of St. Louis, has established a Democracy of his own, and he is now at the head of a strong following looking for Jno. Ma dill's scalp. The nation has one solemn assurance sweet to soothe its fears in regard to the Indian war. Howard is in cIoe pursuit, and at latest accounts was within 500 miles of the hostiles. Why the Globe-Democrat should head the reports of the meetings of the Democratic Association with the title of its editor, is more than the "rural rooster" can understand. The Globe-Democrat, with its charac teristic treachery, publishes Glover's letter in response to an invitation to speak in favor of the Gentry mov...
