When a farmer puts off the selection of his seed corn until ho is ready to plant ho docs not take the samo caro in selection that ho docs if he prepares his seed beforehand, from tlio fact that ho has not tho time, even if he has the inclination ; henco I would suggest tho propriety of getting seed corn ready during the winter whilo wo havo time. I noticed that on ground wo plowed up in July and sowed to turnips, and then plowed again in tho spring and planted in corn, though very I0060 ami mellow, failed to uiako the corn grow early in tho season liko the ground ad joining that had not been in turnips, although it did better late in the sea son ; but tho corn was late, and deficient both in quantity and quality. I would ask if this is tho caso generally with turnips....

Johnson grass is a native of southern Europe, but has becu introduced as a forage plant into nrnt parts of the civilized world. It is extensively cul tivated in tho southern States, and also in northern Texas aud California. One of our Texas correspondents says that it produces enormously as a hav crop, but has tho disadvantage of ocing uimcult to eradicate.
