Pomeroy, J. A. Martin, H. W. Grimes, F. O. Adams, of Atchison county; and Judge J. C. Lamdin and J. Q. Great excitement exist at Occoquan, Ya., near Alexandria, in consequence of the Re publicans raising a banner bearing the names of Lincoln and Hamlin. , Tbe citizens have attempted to demolish it. f The Republicans resisted, and dispatched messengers to the neighboring towns for arms and ammuni tion. Gov. Letcher ordered Gen. Pattan to call out his troops to protect the Republi cans, but the General preferred resigning Lis command. At last accounts, it was ex pected the military at Alexandria would be called out. Occoquan contains three hun dred Republicans, and was the residence of Mr. Underwood, the ostracised Republican Jake Hurd, the notorious Kidnapper, who formerly lived near Lawrence, was shot in Kansas City a few days since by a confed erate. IIAHNipi LV HAMLIN, The steamer Hesperian was barned at the Atchison leree, on the Missouri, last Sun day evening, together with one hundred tons of freight, consisting of 250O bushels corn and 50 hhds. sugar. The boat was par tially insured ; little or no insurance on car go. - No lives lost. Fifty-one car loads of Republicans went out from Chicago to the great Convention at Springfield on the 8th inst. The Sheriff of Arrapahoe county, (Pike's Peal) in company with a Deputy U. S. Marshal from Leavenworth, and Sheriff 'Chess, of Coffey county, arrested a man named Gordon at Humboldt, Allen county, Friday eveding, the 17th instant. " The year before he had brought to maiket one weighing over 700 pounds, and said that year, that he should have one of 900, or near that mark.
