(Correspondence : Wu have noticed several small boys carrying 22 target rilles around lately, which is a rather dangerous thing for small boys to do as accidents are liable to hap pen at any time. French, the hustling young land agentof Grady, was here last week. A party of men were here last week figuring on an auto route through hqre from Tucumcari to Txico. If the project comes to pass, they will in all probability make Puerto the half way point and will probably put in a garrage h'jre. They seemed to be favorably impressed with our town. 13,000 SETTLERS IN NEW MEXICO IN 14 MONTHS According to 11 statement made to a KanHiw City reporter the other day by Colonel Thomas B. Catron, of Santa Fe, L3,0U0 .ot tlera with their families have ar rived in the territory arid taken up homes within the past fourteen months. Mr. Catron never lots pass an opportunity to do a little boosting for New Mexico, and the following in the Kansas City Star is a good one: T. B. Catron, of Santa Fe, N. M., who was a delegate from that territory in tho Fifty-fourth con gress, said this morning that about 13,000 heads of fam ilies have tiled on homesteads in New Mexico in the past fourteen months, Mr. Catron is a guest at the Coates houso. "At that rate we ligure that about 40,000 people have settled on farms in the last fourteen months to develop the agricultural resources of that territory." It Dodson Happenings. Correspondence : Ware, recently from Jiidiiin Territory, was u visitor hero this week. The recent r.old sutip has been very .severe on cattle and sheep on the ranges. El Pnso, Texas, May 6. E. II. Hurriman has his eyes upon the El Paso and Southwestern railroad according to advices received here yesterday from New York. The Phelps-Dodge company which is the owner of this railway system is reported to have had an ultima tum from Mr. Harriman to either accept his proposition to sell or he will build a parallel line.
