Funding of U»e ( ity »;•)»!. [Newspaper Article] — Sacramento Daily Union — 28 May 1851

Funding of U»e ( ity »;•)»!. The exceedingly able and lucid report of Alderman Hutchinson. Chairman of the Finance Committee, must commend it to the consideration of our readers. If any argument were required to show the importance of immediately funding the city debt, the perusal of this report must convince the most sceptical, not only of its feasibility, but of its absolute necessity to save the city from utter ruin, and hopeless bankruptcy. The report shows clearly, that if the enormous interest now accumulating upon the city debt is not stopped, the revenue for the current 3'car will be entirely consumed in the payment of the interest. leaving us without a dollar to carry on the city govcrement, or requiring a tax of the citizens 80 onerous, that they will be compelled to remove where their property will not thus unjustly be consumed. Believing beyond question, that it is for the best interest of the creditors of the city, that the debt should be funded, and it can only be done...

Geological Gl>stivr.tlons by Dr. Jan. Rlakc j j ' [Newspaper Article] — Sacramento Daily Union — 28 May 1851

Geological Gl>stivr.tlons by Dr. Jan. Rlakc j j ' \ [CONTINVKD.] There is also another 6ource of gold which is already attracting the attention of a large class in the community, and which is destined to be the most permanent source of precious metal. This is the quartz veins which, as I have already stated, are found largely imbedded in the crystalline and stratified nicks. Extensively as these veins are diffused, there can be no doubt but thatthey arc all more or less auriferous, and will. 1 believe, in every instance, be an object on which capital can be profitably invested for years, and probably for centuries. Since attention has been attracted to the subject, new veins are being daily discovered, some of which have been found to contain large quantities of gold visible to the naked eye, and which well repays the labor of extract- j ing it, even by the most simple processes. They are. however, all more or less auriferous, even the most unpromising in appearance yield...
