SECURITY OF TENURE. (To the Editor of the Wyalong Star). [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 25 January 1895

SECURITY OF TENURE. (To the Editor of the Wyalong Star). .Sir, — In .the interests of the people of West Wyalong I should like to offer a suggestion iu connection with tlie sub ject matter of your article of the 22nd instant, under the above heading. Of . course, talte- Warden, being a public officer, is 'to an exteut restricted in his remarKs,«9na couia not speak out as most probfebly lie would wish to do. As things are, it is only proper that the business people of West Wyalong should be secured in -their titles to the present sites of their busme-'s- premises. There is utt.lt/ one way to attain this end, viz., to patina :^hort-Act .of Parliament*'' re trospective' in its character, legalising tlie present most insecure titles. This course should be most strongly urged upon the Ministejvcd^ir.ing his visit lo -rWyalotig. Y oiiri : i t Albekt Nicholson. _ ? - ' ? ' ?

IT'S A WISE WIFE.. Touching the marks found on Cres well, evidence of that kind requires to be very carefully handled indeed. I remember the case of a man named Parker, who was tried in London for bigamy, ho being taken for another ? ? 1 TJ ? ? IT ? 1 ? ? v. iiKi'ii iiaiiieu xiuug. niis. nuug » i&w- fill husband had niysteriously dis appeared, and she was going about singing ' No one to love ' one day, when she suddenly caught sight of Parker (who certaiuly looked very like the missing man), and had him arrested, first for desertion and then for bigamy. This remarkable case revealed the fact that Parker's re semblance to lloag was not confined to auy mere geueial Jikeness. Mrs. Hoag sworo positively that the ac cused was the man she had married ten years before, and as she had lived with him for ciglit years straight away, she asked the Judge if it was at all'likely that she could be mis taken in the man. SOCIALISTS, BUT NOT DEMOCRATS. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 29 January 1895

SOCIALISTS, HUT NOT DEMO CRATS. Mb. George Bernard Shaw, speak ing at the Radical Club, struck a bed rock of truth when lie said : ' What was the position of the Labor move ment. to-day ? It had broken down by tbe absenca of the democratic spirit among Socialists themselves, Although they called themselves Social Demociats, yet they under stood Social Democracy so little that some of them thought that to be a Social Democrat, was something more extreme than being a Socialist. Many Socialists seem to have 'thrown over Democracy altogether in actual prac tice.- 'They have taken Socialism as a doctrine which they haye to thrust down other people's throats. They pei-bisted iu running their own candi dates in utter disregard to tho de sires and opinions of the rest of the Democracy.'
