Mr. Mackenzie at Stanley. [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 9 May 1891

Mr. Mackenzie at Stanley, Mr. C. J. Mackenzie addressed a meeting of electors of Stanley in the Reading-room on Thursday night, about 40 persons being present. Mr, Spicer was voted to the chair. Mr. Mackenzie explained his views on important public matters at length, and his remarks were well received. We regret that pressure upon our space prevents us from giving an extended report of the meeting, which has come to hand from our correspon- dent, but it will appear in our next issue.   Mr. Mackenzie stated that a local man was now in the field against him, but he must do him this credit to say that he (Mr. Hall) did not seek election by abusing the opposite party. He also stated that Mr. Hall had come forward in the mining interest, but he (Mr. Mackenzie) did not see how the mining and agricultural interest could be separated. A vote of confidence in Mr. Mackenzie was proposed by Mr. P. Breheney and carried.
