Nimitybelle. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 4 August 1896

Nimitybelle. (From our own Special.) You say you are always glad of news from the country. Here are a few items. This morning at seven o'clock the ground was quite white, and a mist overhead. On going into the open air one found it was snow falling. This continued until half past ten, when the sun came out and the mist cleared. Then we saw one ot the most beautiful sights possible. All the trees seemed to be covered with white blossom, like the chery plum, and the snow fell in flakes off the trees as though the leaves of the blossom were falling. Some poplars in the distance looked remarkably well. There is no grass here. Last summer nothing grew, and so the stock got very weak and were not able to stand the winter ; a great many have died. There will be little doing here until November. But there is a prospect of a good spring after the snow and frost. The ground takes very kindly to the warm sun, and vegetation grows fast. I am sorry folks are hard on you, but we don't all think a...

SHEEP [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 7 August 1896

SHEEP. 43,616 Sheep penned. There was a fair attendance of buyers, but, contrary to expectations, competition was very dull, and market opened at a decline on late values, prices getting worse aa sales progressed, while towards the finish sales were difficult to effect, and a fall of Is per head must be recorded oa late quotations. This may be attributed to the fact that large supplies of country-killed meat have been placed on the Sydney market, which has had the effect of paralyzing the trade. The fall was most noticeable on good to prime lots of wethers, but the extensive purchases of the Sydney H«»t Preserving Co., Ltd., which included the bulk of the rather heavy supply of ewes, prevented the fall on this description from being so marked ; 541b. wethers 9s 9d. Elder, Smith and Co. Limited. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 7 August 1896

Elder, Smith and Co. Limited. The annual review is a great institution. The one from Elder, Smith and Co. just to hand^ is a startler. It gives you a grand idea of the firm, and in that sense does its work admirably. The company has a capital of one million sterling ! The head office is in Adelaide, with branches in many other places, including London. This beautifully printed review gives a picture of an ' Elder Liner loading wool at Port Adelaide,' and another picture of Elder Smith and Co.'s sale yards at Burra. A third show of Port Adelaide wool stores, and you realise that ' Elder, Smith and Co., Ltd.,' is a vast concern. There's all kinds of useful information in Ihe pamphlet, which is a credit to the printer as well as the firm that sends it out.
