Southport Club Training for Cable Guard Tho second period of tiaining for the Southport Cable Guard will be held on the rifle range on Satuiday, 25th inst., at 1 \\rc, and Sunday, 26th inst. at 9 ajn. Luncheon will ba taken on the range at noon. Class firing course will take place in th: afternoon in conjunction with handi cap sweepstake. Twenty-three mem bers attended in the first hilf-year, nnd tho same are asked to be in at tendance to complete their course for efficiency and club benefit. Club members not in Cable Guard are also asked to attend without fail for class firing and parades. Sixteen hours' drill are reqnirnid fo off cir n~v in the year. Special instructions will be given in the use of the Lewis machine gun. All members will have the opportunity of usinjr the gun.

The Rifle Club had not such a soft thing »s they antici pated, some of the cricketers pioving that they were also masters of the riflo as well as the nillow. Mr. Les. Oxenford, much to his sur prise, scored a bull (5) at the 500 range. The conditions of the Ehoot were: seven fhots at 500 and 600 yards rangq, no handicap. The Cooroera Juniors were allowed three men extra, end were defeated bv the margin of 41 points after an exciting contrst.
