LETTERS TO THE EDITOR [Newspaper Article] — Western Star — 27 May 1949

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR I crave space, If you please for an open leuer to Aldermen and Would be Aldermen on these lines: It is Election Day to-morrow and not one of you has taken the platform to expound and enuntcate your policy, l'ou know, ii you only have ambition and no energy, you will get about as far as a locomotive without steam. Of course, I know that some of the Inexperienced aspirants are suffering with stage fright and that "speech" Is a ghastly word. Many a nervous man would prefer a week's solitary con finement to answering a call for a speech. It is a fearful thing to find yourself on your feet, lacing an expectant audience without a word to say. But you are going to be aldermen, gentle men, or, at least, some of you are going to attain that exalted position. You know, gentlemen, an election gets on one's nerves. It excites one's imagination. You should have got down in the Bungil Creek weeks ago and tried out your oratorical powers. There you could have let yourselves g...

UNPARALLELED WOOL PRICE MADE 4fH9 SEASON OUTSTANDING MARKET SUCCESS 60th Annual Review of the Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane Wool Markets by Winchcombe, Canon limited, now released for publication, says that unparalleled prices for Merino and Spin ners fine crossbred wool made the 1948-49 season an outstanding period in marketing records. The Australian clip for the year was likely to realise £186,000,000 in Australian currency, an ill crease of £31,000,000 compared with the record figures of the previ ous year and over four times the money received for the last pre war clip, the report says. Industrial trouble In the wool stores delayed New South Wales auctions In February-March, otherwise mone tary results would have been larger, il continues.
