CRITICISMS BY THE "KILMORE FREE PRESS" [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 2 June 1892

So far as the Alexandra portion of the Anglesey electorate is concerned it has not been long left in doubt as to the nature of the policy which induced them to change their member at the election last month. Mr. M'Kenzie for the time being the member for the district named-has taken the first opportunity of making himself heard. We do not intend to criticise his speech, although his charming consis tency in lauding the Government for omitting the question of the one-man one-vote from their programme-that being the issue he entered Parliament to fight-opens up a large field in that direction. Most likely Mr. M'Kenzie is one of those gentlemen who can talk well (some of his admirers say so) and if such is the case he deserves to be congratulated upon the gift of elo quence; but let us give him the hint, with every respect for a man of such high attainments, that even the gift referred to is but a small essential to success as a representative if same is not accompanied with common sen...

MR. M'KENZIE'S MAIDEN SPEECH. DEBATE ON THE ADDRESS-IN-REPLY ["HANSARD, MAY 18.] [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 2 June 1892

MR. MXKENZIE'S MAIDEN SPEEO. DEBATE ON THE ADDRESS-IN.REPLY [',??Hium, MAr 18.] Bm,-I do not intend to occupy the time of the House at any great length. I expect that the indulgence that has been accorded to other new members will also be accorded to me. I must say that I am surprised at some of the things that have come under my notice in this Chamber. One thing that has astonished me is the unanimity that has marked the utterances of honorable members generally in regard to the support that is to be tendered to the Government in carrying out proposals that will be brought before us for the benefit of the country. Another thing is the expression of feeling which emanated last evening from two honor able members on the other (the Minis terial) side of the House. I refer to the honorable member for Williams town and the honorable member for Richmond (Mr. Trenwith). When I listened to those honorable members of whom I heard so much about in the past, I felt that I could quite agree wi...

MOLESWORTH NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 9 June 1892

MOLESWORTB NOTES. (FROPM OUR Ow. CORRESPOSDENT.) So?? of our local residents have pegged out, and had partly surveyed by Mr. Ainsworth, a number of residential sites on the reserve contingent to the property of Mr. Owen Martin. This is not the reserve that has been permanently reserved, but neverthe less will probably lead to a deal of trouble and bother in retaining same. No fewer than ten blocks have been taken up. There is a movement on foot to establish a Mounted Rifle Corps in Molesworth, Drill. instructor Ross having promised to visit here, provided a sufficient number of recruits join the ranks. I think they can be found, and in a short time would undoubtedly render a good account of themselves, as most of them contain some of the slugg of which heroes are made. Some very necessary works have been creditably performed by J. Aldons and Co., under the Engineer's supervision, on the Native Dog road, which was almost im. passable. The rabbit-trappers have not been idle on the Cat...
