ALLEGED DETRIMENTAL BOARD. At .Wednesday's meeting of Mount Franklin Shire Council, the mattfcr of the Country Roads Hoard was dis cussed. Ncwliam and Woodend Shire Coun cil wrote that it: had passed a reso lution "that believing tihat the pow ers _vestied in the Country Roads Board by virtue of the Country Roads Ad„ are proving detrimental to the prin ciples and interests of local government, this Council* is of opinion that a conference of all country municipalities should be convened to discuss the matter." They asked the council to send u delegate to a conference, 011 a date to be fixed. Cr Bell said that unless (lie Board was steadied there would be 110 ne cessity for municipalities, and (Jieir abolition must occur, in which case, God help the ratepayers.
