UNESCO CAMPAIGN One of the major projects in the programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultur al Organisation is a world-wide campaign for aid in reconstruction nnd rehabilitation in wardevast ated areas. UNESCO has requested informa tion concerning educational needs in sixteen devasted countries and has circularised the more for tunate nations about available assistance. Large-scale financial assistance has already been received from such bodies as the American Com mission for International Educa tional Reconstruction. By the end of the present year contributions are expected to reach 48,000,000 dollars. It is estimated that by the end of June, UNESCO's goal of 100,000,000 dollars will be reached. . QUEENSLAND ASSOCIATION DARWIN BRANCH For the first time the business houses and general public of Dar win and the Northern Territory are being asked for donations to wards our C.W.A. funds. In the near future, the Govern ment will see fit to grant us a block of ground on which to build our rest rooms and some accom modation for women and children from all parts of the Territory. We must comply with building conditions and erect a building within two years or lose our site. We propose to erect a meeting hall with three or four bedrooms, large lounge and dining rooms, bathrooms, several shower rooms, kitchen and laundry, so that women and children coming to Darwin for short periods to ob tain medical, dental or hospital treatment, will have some place to stay other than at a hotel. To do this we need about £15,000 and have in hand about £800.
