AN ABORIGINE 8TEALING A GIRL. Tho Itilklvan correspondent of the Gympie Times (Queensland) writes as follows You will doubtless have heard what a ruction Cambell, the blackfellow, has been playing up about hero. On Sunday, August -, about one o'clock p.m., a gino, named Mary Ann, came running up to the barracks in.a great state of excitement, and reported that Campbell had been to her hut (bhes is shop herding for Mr Rose), and waiited her to go with him. Ol'her rellual, he had ill-treated her, knoeking her down, pulling her hair and tearing her clothes off. Boney, a black. follow, also seepherding, came and released her, whereupon she immediately made tracks for the station, distant about a mile from her hot, Mr Rose, Mr Batt, and myself went after him, armed with a breechloader, charged with. kangaroo shot, and a gun charged with a bullet, and the other with BB shot. We went on foot, as we should be able to sneak better ; we struck the creek on the opposite side of the hut from th...

THE DEVIL'S FREAK. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 23 August 1879

'THE DEVIL'S FREAK. Duat Toar,-1 dedicate the following poem to you, if you will be kind enough to under take the guardianship of such a reprobate. 'The thing is true, but. as you know, tenths are sometimes unpalatsble. I can assure you M h not meant to degrade our sometimes : a . diun angels, but rather to show how im .. en?ly superior those are who withstand the ,ila 'attacks of his satanio majesty. The better half of the genus homo has no greater admirer than myself, and I can but be sur prised at tihe good taste of Sooty in taking on b.imaslf the form of our divldities.--Your. ever, C. Lu5r.N r. You all know about the dawning SOf that ancient, joyful morning That first saw our father Adam On his bed of roses lie ' And you've heard that he was lonely, .Twas no wonder, for he only Knew some beasts that flesh and lonely 'Wore not fitted for his joy. Thus it was for something dearer, And more suited, he did sigh, • Add he got it by and bye. Yet? one morning when awaking, Antd while ...
