Not until 1878 did the above district commence to "show up," and its first attraction seems to be laid in the prominence attached to tho discovery of the noted Hillside mine. In its past re lations with this community, aud for that matter, its present also, Eureka district seems to be held in somewhat of a contempt, for, singu larly speaking, it has never been aided by even the expenditure of a dollar of public funds in its internal improvement. The men who have Sine there have blazed the way by oir own muscle, and are yet doing so in order to get out.
