Wjc understood at a late hour last night that the railroad party in the legislature feel very sar.gulne of carrying the day. We know that they are working with great energy, and that they are leaving no stone unturned to accomplish their ends. But still we are not williog to believe that they are likely to succeed. Their game is to manufacture an appearace of strength, and in that very way to gain accessions to their ranks. We trust that the opponents of the bill will neither over rate nor underrate the dangers of the situation. We should meet energy with energy, and be active and vigilant all along the line. If time is allowed the people will soon be heard from, and If time is not allowed the opposition should resort to every parliamentary instrumentality in their power to stave olT a vote. There was a delegate in the House last se...

The examination of applicants for the West Point Cadetship will take place this forenoon at 11 o'clock, at tho rooms of the Wheeling Commercial College, which have been courteously tendered lor that purpose. In the Houtte of Delegates, on Tuesday last, Mr. Boggess offered a resolution requesting the Auditor to furnish the House an estimate of the revenues for this year at. each of the following on every one hundred dollars value of taxable property, and to inform the House whether, in hia opinion, the taxes eau be reduced without embarrassment to the .State. The people feel that 40 cents tax on the hundred dollars bears very hard upon them, and operates as a draw back to a fair amount of prosperity. What will they say when it comes to twice or three times that tax on ...
