Farmer's Department. r v Cure for Snake and Insect Poison. This Is tho Smithsonian antidote for nak ami insect poslon i Ten grains of the iodide of potas sium. Thirty grains of iodine. . One ounce of water the solvent. To be kept in a vial with a ground gloss stopper, and applied externally to tho wound. It is not to be taken as medicine internally. In using it no time is to be lost, as death often en sues from a snake bite in fifteen min utes. Kites usually are inflicted in the hands or foet ; and when this is the case, the first thing to be done is to stop tle circulation of it with the blood, by applying a IhratUre to the leg or arm above the wound. A pock et handkerchief, the suspender, a piece of rope, or a strip of bark, in an emer gency can be used ; and a gun, umbrel la, or walking stick, or a limb of a treo or axe, or hoo helve, cftn be made a tourniquet to tighten tho bandage.
