"Wo havo heard among our citizens of late much complaint in regard to tho unlicensed conduct of our slavo population and have been frequently asked " dojpur statuto books contain any patrol law and if they do why is it not enforced by our officers?" By the acts of 1846 and 1850 which are now in operation it is made the duty of the county court of cvory county upon application when necessary to appoint a patrol detachment to consist of one captain and not more than five privates nor less than three for each district or company division in the county. Tho coal is equally as lino n specimen oi cannol coal ns is now in tho Governor's office and taken from tho mino nt Parkersburg Virginia. Tho coal bed is belioved to bo quite extensive. This is n most valuable acquisition. Tho iron oro appears to bo very pure and abounds in largo quantities in our north and north-western portions -of tho State. There is in tho Governor's otlico a fine specimon of lead -embedded in quartx rock....
