Whitton. [Newspaper Article] — Riverina Times, Hay Standard and Journal of Water Conservation — 22 April 1901

Whitton. (From our own Correspondents I The Easter holidays passed over very quietly here, the only attractions being a cricket match between Jon daryan and Whitton, and a concert and a ball in aid of the Whitton cricket club funds. The cricket match resulted in a well-deserved win for the Whitton'players. Play commenced at . 11 a.m.. and Mr Dun, the Jondaryan captain, having won the toss from Mr Pasfield, who acted in a like' capacity for the Whittonites, decided to bat. The wickets fell rapidly, the score only reaching 52. Whitton then went in and totted up 66. W. Bruce playing well for 32. Jondaryan in their second innings made 56 ; and Whitton made 43 runs required for the loss of three wickets. Messrs Budd and Lansdown bowled well for the winners ; and P. Dun was the most successful for the losers. The visitors were en- ! tertained at luncheon at Mrs Confoy's Hulong Hotel by the Whitton players, a splendid repast, being provided to which ample justice was done. The concert and ...

Our Melbourne Letter. (From our own Corrospondent). Now that the final results of the late Federal elections are known, the ex citement has quieted down. It seems to be quite uncertain &s to whether the Freetraders or the protectionists ade really in the majority, because the real opinions of several members are practically unknown. But the general order is, that in the Senate the Free traders are in a majority, and in the House of Representatives the Protec tionists have about half a dozen more members than the other party. But if our -experiences are to be taken as a guide, we may assume that some Of our M.
