HIS EXPERIENCE. [Newspaper Article] — Powlett Express and Victorian State Coalfields Advertiser — 22 October 1915

HIS EXPERIENCE. Writing from Bama-win, Vic.,' Mr. \Vm. John Youill, late of Harvey town, Eagle hawk, Vic., says:-"In regard to the statement I gave you some years ago as to. 1113' cure of kidney complaint, I may say that a shortlime since 1 had occasion to be medically examined, and was en tirely free from any complaint." Mr; Youill's original statement was as fol lows:-"I feel it a duty I owe to you, and to suffering humanity, to- send you this letter, in the earnest hope that others who may be suffering as I was, from that dread complaint, Bright's Disease of the Icidneys7 may take courage, and learn from my experience to "adopt the same method of treatment that I did, feeling sure that by so doing they will be saved much pain and miser}', and, perhaps, an early grave. This may seem to some a -remarkable statement to make, but it can be substantiated by anyone who will take the trouble to inquire for themselves from me or of my friends who were with me at the time. TIME IS THE TEST. [Newspaper Article] — Powlett Express and Victorian State Coalfields Advertiser — 22 October 1915

TIME IS THE TEST. The lest of time is what tells the talc. "A new broom sweeps clean," but will it "wear well" is what in Uvesto most. The public soon find out when misrepresentations are made, and merit alone will stand the test of time. People appreciate merit, and years ago local people publicly en dorsed Dean's Backache Kidney Pills; they do so still. Would a man make the statement which follows unless convinced that the article was just as represented? A cure that lasts is the kind that every sufferer from kid ney ills is looking for. Mr. E. Dobell, .Bootmaker, Main street, Korumburra, says:-"Doan's Backache Kidney Pills are a wonderful remedy for backache. For some time \ was troubled with a kind of muscular rheumatism in the small of my back. It caused me great agony when I was working, especially when I bent my back. I was not always in pain, but I would get a bad attack which would sometimes last a week. One day, when I wes very bad, I sent to Brown's Pharmacy for a bottle ...

THE MANURE HEAP. [Newspaper Article] — Powlett Express and Victorian State Coalfields Advertiser — 22 October 1915

THE MANURE HEAP, Tliat .manure laid up in a heap and exposed, to tho elements loses much ot its valuable .properties has long been recognised. but tho idea that tliu loss is duo to tho volatilisation of ammonia is discounted by experiments that iiavc been conducted at Hothajusted. it is now declared that rain is the chief lac tor in tho deterioration of tho manure, causing loss when there is nothing drain ing away from tho heap. Nitrogen, tJio most valuable constituent 111 the manure, is also tho most soluble, and is soon decomposed by ruin; moreover, any nitrato washed inside the heap by tho rain rapidly decomposes. The eon elusion is that the only economical way to stack manure is under cover; in deed a heap thoroughly sheltered from rain showed no loss of nitrogen in three months, while ona in tho open lost 21 per cent.

THE TREATMENT OF BONES FOR ! MANURE. A correspondent writes io ask if tiio following method of making"uso of ro i'uso bones' in ouo to be recommended. Ho lias been told that if a heap is mado of alternate Injurs of bones ami un slaked lime and water poured over it, tho jimss, after a time, will become sui lic'ieiitly soft aud friablo to bo easily cut with a spade and Uug into the soil. Slimy practical gardeners and horticulturists state that roso trees, for example, aro grealy benefitted and strengthened by digging in unbroken bonos round their roots, but general experience as well as the chemical structure of bone both indicate that bono is a slow-acting pianure, and that any immediate olle-ct noticed is due rather to the animal and1 fatty mat ter in the bono, and perhaps to the cultivation of tlio soil, than to the ytoro of phosphate it contains.
