Both teams were without several of their most prominent players, Bal narring taking the field- without Delaney, Buky or Willis, whilst Frankston were minus Boas Box, Harley, Robertson, and Kennedy. _ _BALNARRINC. Hay-cutting is now °nearly; com pleted in this district.,-and the aver age yield has been from one and. a half tons up to -two tons per acre. Quite a number of: new reapers- and binders have been brought intb the district this year,. with the beneficial result that there was hardly any de lay in getting the crops cut. Two very heavy hay crops were cut on the 'farms of Messrs Hellicar and S'lirwell. It is estimated that both went over three-and a lIalf tons to the acre. The two inches of rain which fell last week was welcomed. by graziers and farmers. Frankston New:- Year's -Day sports .. SPLENDID -.ENTRIES. - For the 'above Sports. on New Year's Day, entries closed on Saturday last. Every event attracted a 'large number of nominators, the class on the whole being exceedingly good. For the underhand wood chop 19 entered, and for the standing block 17, whilst seven pairs sent in their names for the sawing contest. The com mittee have placed an order for 44 logsin the hands of. Mr T. Male, of Moorgoduc;who has had great diffi culty in procuring the timber, having searched almost all over the Penin sula. The Sheffield Handicap filled remarkably well,-attracting 37 en trauts. Mr Mark Williams did some quick work as handicapper.
