I'm Told That.... [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Argus — 20 December 1950

§ Im told I "ANYTHING GOES," that scintillating, international smash - hit of the 'thirties, has been booked by Par-, ramatta Musical' Society for its next production, to be pre sented in April, '51. Modern and pretty momentous, as mu3i cal comedies go-with libretto by the inimitable P. G. Wodehous', music by Cole Porter, "Anything Goes" should prove a challenge, to talented P.M.S. players to make this their best show yet. Charles Potts, who'll produce: this one (he was responsible for former successes, including "Our Miss Gibbs"-and "Sally") is con fident it will be. "This show has everything," Chas. enthused last week. The score, incidentally, includes those now timeless fav orites, "I Get a Kick Out of You," "All Thru the Night," "The Gypsy in Me," "Where are the Men," and the unforgettable sensation of the original pro duction, "Blow, Gabriel, Blow." BOUND FOR PERTH on the Kanimbla today for a well earned holiday of about 3 weeks is Miss Dorothy King, branch executive officer of...

Three Months Breather For Poll Absentees [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Argus — 20 December 1950

Three Months Breather For Pol Absentees Parramatta City Council will consider within three months whether or not it will prosecute non-voters at the recent municipal elections. A special report by the Town Clerk cMr. A. T. Kay), reveals 11,205 people of 15,168 on muni cipal rolls voted in Parramatta. In Granville, 13,585 of 18,896 voted. According to Mr. Kay, from a check of 24,790 names on the rolls, it appeared that no one voted more than once at the election. Commenting or. the elections, Aild. R. G. Alcoholics Anonymous Form New Branch [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Argus — 20 December 1950

Alcoholics Anonymous Form New Branch BY AN ALCOHOLIC Most people, some time or another, have come into contact with the.alcoholic. To the nor mal drinker he is "a. booze art ist"; to others he is a drunken sot. Just. why a man or woman drink themselves -into hopeless outcast 'wrecks is beyond the understanding of, the. average person. The latest consensus of medi cal opinion is that "alcoholism, in its chronic form, is a disease -a disease as definite as tuber culosis and even more devastat ing and widespread 'in its ef fects on family life and society." It has been established in the New York" Academy of Medicine that alcoholics have a physical and chemical allergy to alcohol. This allergy, added to certain psychological patterns of mental make up, seem to be inherent and similar in most alcoholics. One drink for the alcoholic is too many anad. a hundred. not enough. After the first drink a subtle personality change occurs and the 'compulsion to drink usually only ends with insensi...
