EDUCATION CENTENARY Liverpool Celebrations Liverpool Public School joined in the Statewide celebration of the completion cf the first 100 years of Stat« Education last week. On Tuesday it was Parents' Day and a goodly number of parents and ex pupils visited the school. Senior pupils guided them though ths various classes and a full inspection of the school in actual working preved of absorbing in- terest. Among those present were the Mayor of Liverpool (Aid. B. Fitzpatrick), Aid. McBurney of Cabramatta, Rev. Birch, Mrs. J. Hind (secretary of the P. and C. Association), and Mr. Clyde Rowe. Aid. McBurney brought along a prize he had won as a pupil at the school in 1893. After a short official welcome to the guests, a programme consisting of sketches, tableaux, physical culture dis- plays, dancing, recitation and choral . singing was enjoyed by visitors and pupils alike. ILLTREATMENT CHARGE A girl of IS, a State ward, was grossly undersized, bore indications of a 12 yeari-old disease, had little vision in the fight eye and defective vision in the left. Intelligence tests showed her to have a mental age of 5 years and 8 months, ¡rna uer classification was from that of a low-grade moron to a level approximating more nearly that of an imbecile. This evidence was contained in a re- port by the Director of the Child Wel- fare Department's Bidura Home read at Liverpool Children's Court when a man and a woman were each charged with U> Terrorising a State Ward; i.2) Ill-treating a State Ward, and (3) over- working a State Ward. The report con- cluded that a certificate to Mental Hos- pital Conti ol seemed desirable. Medical evidence was submitted that the girl had bruises over the left breast, back, shoulders, side of chest, left upper arm and fore arm, right forearm, both sides of the lumbar region, buttock and left thigh.
