"A man who calls^ another man a liar has to put up with Che consequoucos," said Judge E.igleson in Uie Bepdigo County Court on Tuesday io giving "judgment for the defendant in a case in which James M'Connachie Murray, fanner and wood carter, residing" at Leichardt, proceeded against James Egau, fanner, also residing at Leichardt, ifov the recovery of £150 damages for assault.- -Mr C. F. Neal appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Luke Mur - phy for the defendant. The case for the plaintiff was that on the 16th June last ho was passing defen dant's paddock on the road to Maiden Gully when ha entered into conversation with defendant, who was orecting some fencing. A dispute arose over a boy named Miller, who was formerly in the employ of defendant. In the course of conversation defendant aalled plaintiff "a liar." The day was not an ideal one for cricket, SB it was too boisterous and showery, and on that account had to lie Abandoned earlier, than usual. Woodstock won the toss, and sent Arnold in to bat. . The Woodstock bowlers were in great form, and did much damage with the opposing batsmen. They were ably assisted by the fieldsmen, who . were keen and sharp. Arnold made a poor start, the first three wickets falling for 10 runs. A meeting of the Charlton Br,inch of the People's Party was held :vt the Me chanics' on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of considering nominations received by the electorate committee of the Party for tha Korong seat. Mr. W. E. Foreman, president, occupied the chair, and there was a small attendance. The committee invited nominations through the Melbourne press, only one being received, that of Mr. A. Gray, M.L.A., the presant member. The chairman stated that with Mr. E. N. Pevcrill. he represented the blanch at the meeting of the committee, when it was decided to invite the nominations. Only the one nomination had been received, that of Mr. Gray. It was for the branch to say whether they would support the nomination, or leave the question open for the operation of the ptcferential voting. Mr. J.
