The Election of Stock Boards. THE LAWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 4 August 1896

The Election of Stock Boards. THE LAWS. It has been amruied that nobody takes any interest in. the election of the members of the Stock and Pas tures Boards, and in some districts it may be true. It is very surprising to fiad that many of the people most interested are not aware of the qualifications either for membership or election. A TAX ON NEWSPAPERS. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 4 August 1896

A TAX ON NEWSPAPERS. This is the most) tangled-up kind of a world imaginable ! It is a curious world, too. and a man never knows where he is until he's lost consci jusness for keeps. When we first took up the running in this ' Stock and Station Journal ' it was a miserable trade circular, threatened with extinc tion as a 'newspaper ' by the postal authorities. In those days we were under the ban of the alleged ' bona fide ' newspaper man, who was going to slay us, along with Lisselter's trade paper, the ' Field.' and a few other so-called ' newspapers.' During the two and a-half years that this paper has been making its way into public favour there have been a good many changes, but the '' changfullest' change of all has been in the ' Field.' It is a good paper, as far as paper is concerned. It is bulky, and in the hands of a firm like Lassetter's it made rapid progress, because when a . paper ia run to advertise instead of to make a profit all things are possible to ib. We always s...

The Hay Show. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 4 August 1896

The Hay Show. An article on the above subject, by the ' Globe-Tr«- tter,' has been crowded out of this issue, but it will appear in our next. As soon as we get some more subscriptions we'll talk about en larging, for it's a bad state of things when good ' copy gets crowded out. If any of the Hay people want to send a subscription they can pay their money to Mr. Chas Hidgcock, auctioneer and stock and station agent, Hay, who will take charge of it for us. That's easier than sending a Post-Office order. All subscriptions will be duly acknowledged through the paper. Thanks.

Re Arsenic. TO THE EDITOR " S. S. AND S. JOURNAL. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 4 August 1896

Re Arsenic. TO THE EDITOR ' S. S. AND H. JOURNAL. Sir, — I thought I would give you a spell, and let all the show items oos« out before again troubling you. In 1894 I sent a fleece of wool to the Technological Museum. It came off an old ewe fourteen (14) years old, rearing a lamb. When rolled up i* weighed over seven (7) pounds, and was nrm ana elastic, w nen jl see a ,5 fleece like that come off an arsenic-dosed ; sheep of the same age, I may be per- *- suaded to drench, but until then I shall stick to salt, sulphur and salt petre. I must admit it costs money to ? keep sheep always supplied with salt, but it increases the value of your clip, and that is the object we all have ia riew. : Yours, etc., Argyle McCallum, Good Hope, July 26fcb, 1896. \
