As You Like It. "I must have liberty Withal as large a charier as the wind. To blow on whom I please." "As you Like It." (Act II, so. 7.) [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 21 April 1906

As You Like It. 'I must have liberty Wltluil as large a ehurlor us the wind. To blow on whom I plciisc.' -'As you lAko it.' (Act II, so. 7.) Women are notoriously bad losers, and do not take defeat with the same placidity as tho mere man. In most other matters women are adepts at hiding their real feelings. No man could screw up pluck enough to meet his mortal enemy with the apparently sincere kiss of friendship. lint with a woman it is second nature. , A case of what looked liko pique in the Sydney ring on Tuesday was very nearly uttundod with serious injury to the lady. Miss Glazier, a contestant in tho . A Flush Money Market. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 21 April 1906

A Flush Money Market. The record wool clip and wheat harvest, together with the splendid butter and agricultural output, have had the inevitable effect of unduly inflating the bank deposits, and, as a natural result of the operations of the inexorable law of supply and demand, the interest rates have been reduced. The banks have not been able to find remunerative investment for the large amount of money offering, and they had no oilier course open to them but to discourage would-be depositors by the simple process of reducing tho interest rates. As evidence of the abnormally largo amount of money available lor investment, Premier . Carruthers stated on Wednesday that the Government had been refusing the sale of stock for the last month, and he had applications for be tween one and two million pounds worth. And, he added, 'there was too much money on the market now, and the Government would have to reduce its rate of interest.' Mr. Carrutliers said tho reduction would, of necessity, ...

The Absurdity of High. Heels. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 21 April 1906

The Absurdity of High. Heels. (By a Liuly Doctor.) - Tiiukk is something- remarkable about the ordinary woman's devo tion to high heels. This is sup posed to bo,' where women are con corned, the ago of commonsenso; uio over-increasing- popularity 01 the .Louis hool provides another aspect of the question. From the pretty shop girl and . the smart parlor maid to the daughter of the upper classes the Louis heel is re garded amongst women as the pe destal of superiority to bo appro priated for personal adornment. The altitude of inon, on the con trary, is distinctly critical. Some ' tinic ago there was talk of the abo lition of the Louis heel; the day of the hygienic boot was said to be at hand, and moist', men and a few women received the information with satisfaction^. With what re sults? Thousands of Louis heels click impertinently along the- pave- ments of the metropolis to-day, . and the square-toed 'sensible' shoe is relegated to the country.
