FITZROY ELECTION. [Newspaper Article] — Fitzroy City Press — 24 February 1883

. F.ITZROY ELECTION. The election is over and has resulted is Messrs licid and Tucker being returned. Throughont the day very little excitement was crincll, eanl onler was generally observed by the partisans of the various candidates. In each instance the numbers arelower than at the last general election. As is useally the case St. Mark's and North Fitzroy divi sons decided the contest. The great nln?ber of operatives and mechanics residing in these divisions vote solidly for protection and go to the nmen who subscribe unrsnervedly to that principle, irrespective of anything else. The retfurns from tie Fitzroy lest division were litst ascertained, when it waa seue that the silnall mlinority which Messrs. Tucker and Reid were in woull most likely bhe wiped out in St. Mark's. Fitzroy West was nrext obtained, and though aIr. ]llacketts chances were slightly ilnpropmvl, still evi dently not to tile extent necessary to render himi safe.
