COURT OF PETTY SESSIONS. Tuesday, August 11th, 1868. (Before Messrs H. Wren, E. Haslingden, and W. D. Tarlinton, Magistrates.) One inebriate was fined 5s for disorderly conduct. Wages. Martin v. Fitznatrick. Lawrence Martin, plaintiff in this case, claimed the sum of £7 10s, for work and labour done, as the hired servant of the defendant, alleging that Fitzpatriok dis charged him at a moment's notice, and refused to pay him his wages. Thomas Fitapatrick, in defence, stated that the plaintiff had not performed his work in a proper manner. First, he had over-sown a. paddock of wheat -v and secondly, he had pown a field of barley without ploughing it j he had run a few furrows through the paddock, and then harrowed the loose soil over th& parts that had not been ploughed, consequently he discharged the plaintiff at once. CHURCH OF ENGrLAND MEETING, PANBULA. A meeting of the members of the Church of England was held in Christ Church, Panbula, on Monday evening last, 10th instant, Bey. J. L. Knight in the chair. The accounts were read by Mr Ben nett, churchwarden, shewing an expendi ture of £1078, teaving a balance of £603 due to the treasurer of the Church Building Fund. Proposed by Mr John Martin, and seconded by Mr James Furner:—" That a bazaar be held at Panbula in aid of the balance, on Tuesday, the 2 Jth November, in commemoration of laying the first Btone of Christ Church." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr Baddeley, jun.f Beconaed by Mr Wollard, and carried :— " That the following ladies form a com mittee: Mrs Manning, Mrs Gwynne; Mrs Thompson, Mrs Bennett, Mrs. Bad deley, Mrs Page, Mrs Wollard, and the other ladies of Panbula, for preparing articles for sale, and the general manage ment of the Bazaar." The movement for a fortnightly mail between England and Australia lias received a fresh impetus since the attempt upon the life of Prince Alfred. So anxious were the British public to ■obtain the full details of O'Farrell's mad-brained act, that the movement lias gained additional strength and vigour. The memorial' which lias been presented to the Postmaster General was signed by/253 bankers, merchants, and others.
