Doreen Red Cross The'Doreen Red Cross Branch met on Thursday, August 29. The attend anco was failr. Unfortunately the pre sident, Miss Grantham, was again un able to attend, but her place was very ably taken by the vice-president, Mrs. A. Wallis. The treasurer reported that the branch had collected £150 in the 12 months of its existence. Another box of goods is to be packed and de spatched next week. Each member had been asked to buy an apron, as a donation towards the forthcoming bazaa,r .a prize to be given for good work, style, ect. They certainly made a very gay dis play, all styles and colors. The judg ing was a difficult matter, and the prize eventually went to Mrs. Gem mell. Members were asked to bring in all quilt squares already filled, so that soine idea might be obtained as to when it might be completed. Diamond Creek AFTERNOON AT MRS. SPIERS' HOME A social afternoon was held at the home of- Mrs. Spiers last Thursday resulting in £4/10/ being raised for the Diamond Creek Red Cross. The drawing room was decorated with beautiful flowers from the gar dens, and made an attractive setting for the function which was attended by visitors from Fairfield and Greens borough as well as the local ladies Councillor and Mrs. Clinton, recently elected Mayor and Mayoress of Hei delberg, were present ?acconilplied by Councillor and Mrs. J. L. Ryan. Altogether there were about 70 present and after a delightful after noon tea provided by the Red Cross ladies had been served many took ad vantage of the beautiful weather and viewed the gardens. The president of the branch (Mrs. Bradley) thanked Mrs. Splers for the invitation to her home and also ex pressed the thanks of the branch to those who had cone long distances to help the funds. GREENSBOROUGH SOLDIERS FAREWELLED PACKED HOUSE WISH MEN GODSPEED AND SAFE RETURN ARRANGED by the Greensborough Branch of the Red Cross and other citizens, a farewell was tendered to a number of soldiers who have enlisted for overseas service in the Masonic Hall last Saturday night. The hall was packed for the function which comprised dancing, community singing and items. Before the presentations, which were made by Mr. LEverard, M.L.A., the soldiers marched up the hall and'cl to the stage where they formed a semi-circle. Councillor Santon acted as chairman for the evening, and Councillor Lines supported iiim. Greensborough CARD EVENING FOR CHURCH In aid of the Church of England funds, a card party was held at' the home of Mr. and Mrs. Auty, Grimshaw Street, on Wednesday night and 're suite'd in about £2 being raifsed. There were 29 present, and this was very good considering the number of patiotic appeals being made. The winners were-Miss H{ll; Mrs. Rundle, who played as a man and won the prize. Ambulance Appeal BY ROYAL AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF VICTORIA With more than £29,000 to its credit, the R.A.C.V. Appeal for the purchase of ambulances for the fight ing forces is entering its closing stages, and ?country centres of the club should keep this 'in view in any movements they have in hand. The response to-the appeal has been over whelmingly generous, and although the organisers launched it with con fidence that it would be well support ed the result has far exceeded the most optimistic ,expectations which wore .entertained three months ago when the appeal was first made to the public.' Jam sent to Hospital - 7 large jars, 42 small jars. A profit of £6S/1/ wvas received from the combined, Auxiliaries Card Party at Myers on'July 25. A small preselitation was made to Mrs. .eadler, and regret was expres sed at her departure from the district.
