Brisbane, Friday, In the Assembly yesterday a mo tion by Mr. Forde tor re-modelling the Constitution of Australia to pro vide for a sub-division of Australia into p. greater number of self-go verning States was carried on the voices - Mr. Gillies moved the second read ing of the Primary producers' Organ isation Bill. Mr. Cecil Roberts said the Bill represented the first step towards the nationalisation of the whole of the primary industries. The debate was adjourned.

THE PUBLIC SERVICE A GENERAL REDUCTION TO BE MADE IN SALARIES. CROWN MINISTERS AND MEMBERS X of PARLIAMENT INCLUDED. Brisbane, Thursday. A reaction of 5 per cent, in ttaa salaries of public officers receiving £300 and over per annum, including Ministers of the Crown and members of parliament, has been decided upon by the Cabinet. The Premier said to-day that the Cabinet had been con sidering the Estimates for the new financial year, and it was now de cided that a reduction must take place in salaries over the £300 mark. Those offlccra-Tfreciving winder £300 are sub ject to the Arbitration Court, and that Court has been aBked to revise their salaries. In regard to salaries above the £300 limit the Cabinet had decided there would be a reduction ol 5 per cent. That aPPHed to everyone subject to the Estimates. THE UNIFORM GAUGE. Brisbane, Thursday Discussing the uniform gauge ques-1 tion Mr. Theodora explained that the Queensland Government was willing i to enter into an agreement to carry out the first,portion of the scheme, that was for the unification of the main trutak lines. The cost of con version was estimated at 21. million sterling. The expense would be divided proportionately between the various States. However, the con structional scheme would not be com menced until an agreement was ar rive^ between aft the mainland States. The bigger scheme applying to all lines was estimjated to cost 50 million. This w a subject for con sideration at a l&ter date.
