SANDRIFT IN MALLEE. ADVANTAGE OF WINDBREAKS [Newspaper Article] — Swan Hill Guardian and Lake Boga Advocate — 27 July 1914

SAHDRIFT IN MALLEE. -4---- ADVANTAGE Op WINDBREAKb One great advantage of the Agri cultural Bureau system in South; Aus tralia is the encouragement it gives to thoughtful farmers to hand on to others their experience in some branch of agriculture. For example, at the May meeting of the Pinnaroo branch, Mr. Josiah l3onnin read a paper, pub lished in the South Australian "Jour nal of Agriculture" on "Sanddrifts and Windbreaks." "I do not think," says Mr. Bonnin, "drifting sand will ever be such a serious matter with agriculturists as it is with some pastoralists. My reasons for this belie! is that farmers have always a ready means, with their ploughs and drills, of checking it by sowing a crop of some kind. Once a crop starts to grow, and stock are kept off it-rand this is imperative--it will soon form a crust of roots and stalks that will check and ultimately stop the drifting sand. With sheep it is different, and unless the drift is fenced off as well as sown, it will never be preve...

NYAH. Weather. [Newspaper Article] — Swan Hill Guardian and Lake Boga Advocate — 27 July 1914

NYAHI Weather. The present weather conditions are having a serious affect in the settlement as elsewhere. The heavy frosts are attacking the young citrus trees, seriously hampering their growth. The roads are as dusty as the summer. . After the number of changes passing off the people are giving up hepe of rain. Improvements, Any one interested in the development of a block should visit the property owned by the Two Bay's Nursery Com pany, and formerly known as Master's. The beautiful likes of concrete ditches are a feature in themselves. A new method of irrigation is also being tried, which apparently should be miost successful. The improvements made here in a few mouths under the Inanagership of Mr. T. Hedgous are phenomenal. Junior Football. The NySh boys journeyed to Piangil on Friday afternoon, and scored n win.
