L (Parker) Coleman and son, Pete, and son in law, Has Steele, of Long Beach, California, arrived in this city on their way to their old homes at Steele about 7'50p. in. Monday, having made a tt ip of '2,407 miles by automobile, being out nineteen day, which Is about one and one half days more than train time.liguring that they rp.n only during the day and made frequent stops to rest. Deduct ing twelve hours from the day for the nights, they were running nine and one-half days, while the usual train time is four days and nights. If the trains stopped at night the trip would require eight days. The trip was made in a Ford car, which seemed none the worse for wear, and the car had been run two years and had ii.OOO miles to its credit before starting on the long overland trip from the Golden State to Imperial Missouri. In this climate spring planting does not, and cannot be made to give good re sults, because the climate is not adapted to it. While, as a matter of course, wheat can be planted in the spring and reasonable re sults obtained, it is far better to plant in the fall. Wheat is the easiest and quick est of all crops, because it re quires no cultivation. All neces sary is to plant the seed, let it mature, then harvest it. Sam Taylor, tried in circuit court last week on the charge of poisoning Ills wife, was given a life term in the penitentiary. Tiie Taylors lived in the upper end of the county, and Mrs. Tay lor being ill, another woman wns helping care for her. She died under suspicious circumstances and her husband and the woman wore arrested, and the evidence was strong enough to cause the jury to convict Taylor. The case against the woman, Iva Uumpas, has not been disposed of.
