We have been shown a letter, picked up somewhere, from 'a citizen of White Olond to J. P. Johnson, of II:-b!anJ, written on election night, after the rote was cotnted. It is a gem, in its way ; but we shall refer only to one eentence if such a prodaction can be said to con tain sFntances. After speaking of the great amocnt of " elegal" voting that was done here, he says : " John Utt done his damdsst against you ; so did Sol. Miller.'' Bo that's it. This "damdest" was done against "yon" that is, J. P. John son. Then, it was Mr. Johnson who was really the candidate, under the alias of Parker. Let ns look at this thing John Utt and Sol. A new scheme is on foot, which, if car ried out, will be another gigantic swindle npon the State, whatever may h the de sign of the, measure. We believe it was first promulgated by Gov. Carney, in letter to a gentleman of Baldwin City, Douglas Oonnty. The proposition is. that the Legislature pass law under which the State shall become responsible for the payment of the Bonds voted by the Ysrious Counties to aid in the construc tion of Railroads that is, shall guarantee the payment of principals and interests. To begin with, this would be an indirect violation of our Constitution, which says that the State shall never become a party in carrying on works of internal improve ment.
