Disf ricf Court. District Court convened Tuesday, IMarch, 16th. There were twa jury cases tried, j. The- City of Plains vs. R. O. Thornberry was tried and the jury .returned a' verdict of guilty. This was a case where the defendant had rrefused to pay occupation tax and nvas arrested under a city ordinance which provides a penalty for non- payment. The Court assessed him -the minimum fine and costs and itold him he would recommend that the city remit the fine. The Judge :said it was not well to avoid occupa tion tax, as it - was legal and all -courts upheld the same. The case of the State vs. Joshua 'Gill, which had been tried arid the jury was still out when we went to press last- week, reported Friday that they had a verdict after thirty-:-six hours deliberation. It proved to be a verdict of .guilty.
