iWrTO KILL OTTOI ENMIES lBaring all Surplus Greas, Weeds, Its., One of the ain Features. While, during the winter we see little of either our insect frieods or foes, it is during this period that we strike some of the most effeatie blows against the latter. This period also has the advan t-ese of giving the farmer more time to attend to the destruction of the enemies of his crops than he has at any other time of the year. During the winter most in sects are in a dormant state. a condition similar to that in which snakes hibernate. The usual stage in which hibernation takes place is the chrysalis or pupal stage. This is the stage in an insect's life is which it transforms from the "worm" or larval state to the ienged or adult insect. As ex amples of this might be mentioned the boll worm and the southern gras worm, which make their -cooons in little burrows below the ground. In the caue of the boll worm these cocoons are plac ed anywhere from one to seven inches below, while the south...

. Agricultural Gleanings. I Items f t from Field and Farm........ -- -- - -- - -- - -- - A visit in the country indicates that the farmers are showing a disposition to push their crop preparations. A large amount of land has already been plowed, while the work of burning the grass and cotton stalks is every where prevalent. There is no question but that early planting and rapid and intensive cultiv.. 'tion will prove a foil to boll weevil depredations. More attention is also being prad to truck farming and pay fields. Farming opera tions are encouraging at the open ing of the present year. A Good Hay Crop.
