Mantinsville, Va., September 10th. ? Secretary Shaw reached Martinsville Saturday morning, accompanied by his private secretary, State Chairman C. B. Slemp, District Chairman S. G. Hail East Radford, Va., Sept. 17.?Rad ford has been deeply stirred over the the shooting of ex-Mayor I. T. Hall by Detective James O'Connor, which oc? curred at Hall's restaurant, almost op? posite the East Radford passenger sta? tion, Saturday night between eight and nine o'clock. As yet there has been no preliminary hearing, and the details of the shooting are somewhat conflicting, but the fol? lowing ;s one account as gathered from several sources: O'Connor, who was eating supper in the restaurant, was talking to a young girl who had just waited upon him in a manner which Mr. Hall did not approve.
