It is an nndeniablo fact, that immense amounts of money have been paid by the property holders of this city, into the County Treasury since its incorporation, It is also true, that this city has in consequence of innumerable calamities, and extensive improvements, incurred such immense liabilities, that her debt is now upwards of £300;000, and the money which has been appropriated has proved wholly inadequate to liquidate these obligations. — The law compelling our citizens to bear the expense of the County, especially, when they are so severely taxed as for the debts of the city, we consider onerous and oppressive, and one which ought immediately to be repealed. The money which has gone into the County Treasury, has scarcely benefitted our citizens in the slightest degree. We need only refer to the pile of bricks and mortar on I street, which was intended for the Court House, and which edifice was most happily designed and commenced on a firm foundation, but...
