She wrote a history of New York, and translated Martin's history of France and other works before she was engaged by this great publishing house, to which her literary tact and judgment aro invalu- able, and for which they pay her $4,000 a year. She is a iuatronly-looking woman, with no nonsense about her, and the last woman in the world on whom the gushing sentimental female of the period can impose her crude and worthless wares. In fact, the aforesaid gushing female never tries the experi- ment but once. She fares better with editors of the other sex.
