TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 6 April 1900

Ti6 TiE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. Sir,-Whilst agreeing with your correspondent, " Health," that there is a danger to the public in the present" state of the Watts R?7iver, and that " proper care" should be taken 'to pre vent the spread of fever, I sincerely regret that'he should, by base insinua tion, and undeir-the cloak.of- ia??i-dc-' plume, have made a personal aattack." upon our resident doctor. Hearing, as I have done for years past, expressions of the greatest appreciation by patients and their relatives of the professional services of our local doctor, apart from the universal esteem and high regard in vihich he is held as a citizen, I feel it my duty to point out that this per sonal attack does not reflect the feel ings of 'this community, but emanates from one unknown individual. Yours, &c., .. E. SELWYN CHASE. St. Tohn's Parsonage, Healesville, April 3rd, 1900.

PERTINENT PARS. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 6 April 1900

PERTINENT PARS. c [BY AWK-EYE: Much has been written in the v `-olumnrs of the " Guardian" of late by-several correspondents on the vexed subject of sanitation. It is a com- a meri??able spirit that' promrpts any in-, dividual to try` and elevate the stand ing o0 he" -own in which he exists, but-my idea is that we are just getting a little too much of this indigestible I morsel. The whole tenor of opinion. emanating from the, brains of those eager '*b 'filout their beliefs before a criticising public is 'that sickness in' I Elealesville is wholly anid solely de to v defective drainage, and insanitation generally. The idcal health officer has h been suljectd to much criticism in ii this connectibn owing, ,presumably, to p his non-success in preventirig the evil influences wrought by ..the outbreak of. ailments heir to. the human existence, but it is plain indeed to itheunbiassed mincd: tht the condeination passed' upon him in the niajority of instances is. not :only :unwarranted 'ut ...

PULPIT MIS-STATEMENTS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 6 April 1900

PULPIT MIS-STATEMENTS. . TO To E EDIT OR OF TaE GUAURDIAN. mSa,-I think my fellow readers of your correspondents' letters which ap pear under the headng o~f Pulpit Mis-statements, in your last Friday's issue, will join with . .me .in sympathising with Mr. Tylee. It must he.a great blow to hiim to ,find that his champions show such crudity of thought and inaptness of diction. They are positive proof ofthe truthful ness of the old adage, " Fools rush inc where angels fear to tread," Mr. Tylee in the present instance heing an angel. What ground has " Blue Metal "--" i (would not"Blue Stockings" be more appropriate)--for asserti?g? that I am wearing the cap 4 Mr. Tylee tried to foist a cap on our heads which did not" fit, and we naturally objected to such high-handed proceedings. The only assertion I miade in my letter, was that; in delivering.his sermon (1) Mr. Tylee gave vent to certain expressions which gave his hearers the impression that, the young fellows ware in the habit of. goi...
