GOIF soirj. The local club held its opening day on Saturday last, when a four some was played for trophies pra sented by the club. Exactly a dozen pairs completed the course ami the outing was very enjoyable. Owing to the absence of a ijood rain the ground was somowhit hard. The greens were very difficult to play on, being coatwd with a h-wvy layer of sand. The honors of win ning the day wore carried off by Mr. G. Mair and Miss Whitehead, who were best off tha stick with 93. It was a good round and with 11 handicap they were declared tin winners. There w^re Tisitors pre sent from Beulah. Off to the Front. There was a very largo gathering at Mr. W. A. Hal Jam's fine and spacious residence, Goyura, on Fri day evening last, for the purpose of saying good-bye to two promising young men who are off to the front, viz, Messrs. Win. Hatcher and Win, j Cameron, The evening was devoted to dancing, singing, cards, etc. Dur ing the conrse of the proceedings Mr. W. A. Iiallam presented each of the young men with a wristlet watch, and sincerely hoped for their sife return. Others to address the gathering included Messrs. Thos. Hatcher, Thos. M'Mullin and J. Pitcher. The guests were very sumptuously treated by Mr. and Mrs. Hallam, and regrets were ex pressed when it was time to go home—albeit some stayed until nearly daylight. The volunteers left by Saturday morning's train. A number of residents of the surrounding district met at the resi dence of Mr. J. T.
