Absolom last week, when he missed his footing descending from a verandah, thereby falling heavily, and necessitating his laying in bed for 3 weeks. Under medical treatment he is progressing favorably' One of the early day settled blocks of land known as "Hortons,"'and for so many years given up as a wilder ness, lately came into possession of Mr Joseph Turner, creamery manager at Shoreham, who is having the land cleared and subdivided in the most up to-datestyle. Last week a commotion was caused when a complete house was carted from the creamery and deposited up here by Cr. T. Male, Esq., with his conveyances for heavy transport, the whole being done in not more than a couple of days. Crops on the "Annesleigh" home stead are now being harvested. SORRENTO v. MITCHELSON'S TEAM. The Sorrento Club played a closely. contested game on Saturday, 27th inst., against Mr Mitchelson's team, that gentleman being manager for Mr. H. B. Howard Smith. The match resulted in a win for Sorrento by 3 runs. Local interest was high, there being a good number of spectators. For the winners, W. Watson (20), T. Morce (17 not out), batted best, J. At the council meetini on \Wednes day, a letter was received from the Public Works Department, in reply to request for information as to Govern ment's intentions, stating that "steps are being taken by the Department to extend the training walls into deeper water, for which tenders will be in vited as soon as the estimates have been passed by Parliament, and chat the dredging at the mouth of the creek will be carried out by' the "Pioneer" as soon as the vessel is available. The Department was not aware whether the council had taken steps to carry out what is considered the most important part of the scheme, viz., the introduction of septic tanks to deal with the house sewage flowing in to the creek, as was promised by counci in letter of 4th June last.
