Town Planning On Thursday evening last week, Mr. C. Read, of ^ the Town Plann ing Association of Great Britain, who is on a propaganda visit to Australia, as representative of the Association, gave an exposition of the subject, illustrated. The Mayor .(Alderman Smith), presided, tire at tendance for such a subject was not too bad. Mr. Read said that the planning of towns, ideal was originated by a book published in 1899, entitled, 'The Planned Towns of Tomorr ow,' tlie Town Planning Associa^ tion being formed. There was hero in Australia, with its wide spaces, and. freedom from ancient encumb rance, an unparalleled opportunity for the making of towns embodying the best conditions of living. It ?appeared to him, however, that the Australian towns were developing a long the same lines which in the Old Country, were now realised to he mistaken ones. Bulli Debating Society—Water [Newspaper Article] — South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus — 4 June 1915

r {Bulli Debating Society -Water At the Debating Society's Meeting on Monday, the Rev. p. w. Dowe gave a discourse on the subject of Watier. Members imagined that an address on such a subject, especially on a cold winter night, would be quite void of interest, but they were agreeably disappointed. A particularly interesting part of Uie lecture was when he discussed tlie effect the absence of heat bad on water, bringing about its conver sion into ice. Describing water as a mineral, he said all other minerals contracted when cold, not so water, it only contracted till it came down to a temperature of forty degrees, ft then commenced to expand, and at the instant of its conversion into tee its expansion was greatest. This made it lighter than the water it displaced, and it consequently float ed on the surface. This peculiar pro perty of water be regarded as a standing miracle, as if it contracted when cold, like all other minerals, ice would be heavier than - water and would therefore ...
