Woman HER FANCIES and HER FADS Some Reflexions on Woman and Her Clothes [Newspaper Article] — Mirror — 13 August 1921

\l/^*-»-» n «-i HER FANCIES — W Oman and HER FADS Some RefleAtons on Woman and Her Clotkes (Bv 'Algernon,' in the, 'Age.') Ta begin with, and in order to avoid any false premises, as the lawvers say. I am -devoted to the weaker tex— which, by the way. every msuj knows to be the stroajj er bv reason of its weakness. But I do not love it enough to be blind to its fascinating faults and its adorable inconsistencies. Clothes, for instance. The editor of this up to date paper has no sooner published a diatribe. on the subject of high heels and their mal ignant effect upon the ankles, tem per, carriage, digestion and general appearance of women, than hey, presto, low heels are in! Not a word of warning, mark you. Low heels are in— woke up. so to speak, to find themselves famous, and the highest heels — the aristocrats of yes terday's boudoirs and booteries — are on the bargain tables, with guineas knocked off their price. But does this mean low heels in the morning, low heels in the eveni...

The motor Car Talk and Coats make full use of the Gears [Newspaper Article] — Mirror — 13 August 1921

€Ik motor £ar MftU make fill il*e of m Gears Judging by the comparatively low ratios provided for the top gear of many cars now on the mar ket, more particularly, perhaps, those 'of comparatively modest en gine dimensions, it would appear, says the 'Auto Car' (Eng.), that the majority of manufacturers are imbued with the idea that the ave rage user will not or cannot make use of the gear-box. It has gradual ly Jjecome almost a fetish _ for the. less mechanically inclined . class of car-user to judge the merits .. of a car by what it can do on top-gear.1 So greatly is this ability to per form brilliantly on top-gear prized, that when two private owners live in the same locality and possess each a different -malr^ of car, one of which will, perhaps, in variably climb a certain hill on top, whereas it. is necessary fo change gear on the other, this latter car is likely to be somewhat despised by local motor ists who take note of its perform ance. Simple magneto Test [Newspaper Article] — Mirror — 13 August 1921

SWle Waists* tut A simple means of testing a mag neto's condition during a. general overhaul is to mark a spark gap about a quarter of an inch long by means of two pins stuck through a piece of cork. Connect one pin. to one of 'the terminals on the distri- ' butor, and the other pin to the magneto base plate. By giving the magneto coupling a sharp twist by hand, a spark should pass between * the points of the pins'. This, is a very rough-and-ready test, but would probably be quite sufficient to prove the condition of the magneto.
