THE MINISTRY. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 30 June 1894

THE MINISTRY. OURS is a Ministry of many voices. The Minister for Public Works is going about the country -whooping for protection, expressing his dissatis faction -with tho present meagro instal ment of that policy, and promising tho people " a little more protection " when the Ministry return to power.-When speaking at Penrith a few months ago, tho Piemier belittled tho fiscal question, and in his manifesto to Tain wortJi tho warmest words ho can find to reassure his protectionist supporters are con tained in the vague assurance that " an amendment of tho tariff on moderate and equitable protective lines will bo introduced." At Moonbi ho said the Government cauie in as protectionists, but soon found them selves with only a majority of three members. Tho main issue now was whether froetrade or protection should rule tho day. THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND MACQUARIE AD[?]OCATE. Wednesday, July 4, 1894. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 4 July 1894

THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND JllIACQUARIE ADYOCATE. WMtneadajr, July 4. HtM. Tfrii favourable reception given to the views on the land question expressed by Mr. S. Phillips at the public meeting held in the Masonic Hall on Monday night will be endorsed throughout the electorate by both classes more directly interested in the land pastoralists and selectors. Our| land legislation in the past,; though ostensibly framed with th<! object of settling the people on the land, has lamentably failed to achieve this, and the recognition of this failure, as well as the early expiration of the Central Division leases, gives special prominence at this election to the question of reformed land laws. The first step to be taken into considera tion is, in Mr. Phillips's opinion, to endeavour to make the laws as liberal as possible, the primary object being to settle the people ou the land, and. to simplify the law. Those whose business has taken them to the land courts, and who have heard the sp...
