THE REASON WHY TO BE ASKED. At Monday's meeting of (he Glenlyon Shire Council, Cr. Main said l,hat lie understood Ifuit one of tile council's contractors, Mr Weslii - cott, had applied 10 l(he Dnvlesford Borough Council to be allowed to take 50 c. yards of slum: from one of its quarries, and hud been refused. This seemed a remarkable proceejding, and hardly what was to be expectcd from a neighboring municipality. Unless this council facilitated, as far as pos sible the obtaining by its contractors of stone at the cheapest rate, it would later have to pay the piper in the shape of increased wages for work. He moved that the Borough Council be asked if it were true that it had so acted, and if so, for what reasons. Cr MacDonald seconded the mo tion. At yesterday's local court, George Irving proceeded against llcrtha Dyer, Julia Dyer, and Theresa Morrison, the charge being that 1(ic defend ants, at Glenlyon, having been serv ed with a proper notice to fence, as provided by Section 7 of the fences Act l8yo, failed to agree with com plainant as to the consllruction and kind of fence, atld the complainant sought to obtain an order of Idle court, as provided bv Section 8 of the Fen ces Act 18^0. Similar action was taken by Geor gina. Isabel 'Tving, against the same defendants. The bench was occupied b'y ftlr. Ucrrvinan, l'.M., and Mr. Densein, J.I'.'
