As a set off against the increased cost of living, the wages of many employes of the Railway Depart ment were raised sixpence a day. That even this small increase tells heavily in the aggregate was made clear when, in answer to a question, it was officially stated that owing to it the [expenditure of the depart ment had increased by ,£"5,000 a year. Tub Donald Tiipg With which is incorporated the Donald Express and Lands borough Timbs. Tuksday, Jui.y 18, 1916. A FARMERS'-PARTY. Thk primary producers of the State have for years past been awakening to the consciousness that the Liberal Party in politics, for whom they have been fighting and voting, have not been attending to the interests of the man who has to extract his living from the soil, but have subordinated those interests to the demands of the city financier and the Collins Street farmer. This dissatisfacton is now finding voice, and the demand is arising for poli tical representation which will really represent the producer, just as the worker is represented by the member he sends to Parliament. Two schemes for the advancement of the interests of the farmer are at present being brought under notice, viz.: (1) The co-operative movemeut adopted by the Farmer's Convention at Port Fairy last week. (2) The Victorian Farmers' Union. The first is a purely business proposition,...
